How can I work alongside my benefits?

Mirfield Community Centre, Water Royd Lane, Mirfield, WF14 9SG

Monday 3rd June 1-3.30pm (1 week)

Thinking about stepping into a new job role can be an intimidating process. For anyone currently claiming benefits, making an informed decision means untangling a complex web of job-related benefits, disability living allowances and permitted work agreements. This is a difficult task without support and is one of the reasons why many of us face a crisis of confidence when considering future job opportunities.

This brand-new, one-off workshop will offer an overview of how various DWP benefits are affected by earnings from work and will also provide a demonstration of how to use handy online tools to check personal finances.

Is work good for anything other than earning a wage?

Monday 10th June 2-3.30 (1 week)

When looking for a job or thinking of starting in – or returning to the workplace, it’s easy to image that having more money in our back pocket is the only benefit to being employed. However, this brand-new workshop shows us that there are many benefits to being in gainful employment.

Writing for Self-Expression

Online

Friday 7 June 2024 10.00am – 11.30am 4 weeks

Expressive writing is about self-expression. It helps us to think about our experiences and put our thoughts and feelings into words. In this welcoming course, we’ll take time to reflect and write in a safe, friendly and confidential atmosphere that fosters personal awareness and wellbeing.

These friendly, online sessions delivered by our partners at the Royal Literary Fund will be facilitated by a professional writer and one of our Peer Workers. Each week we’ll consider a short piece of published writing and talk together about the impact the words have on us. Writing prompts and exercises will be offered, encouraging us to write about our own experiences, thoughts and feelings.
