Weekly Update

College News

June 8, 2023

Welcome to the weekly update with lots of information on available courses and community offers.

It is great to see you book onto our courses. Many of which are now full or nearly full! Please remember to attend all your sessions and let us know if you can’t attend so we can give your place to someone else.

This week we had a visit from the Chair, Marie and Deputy Chair, Mandy of our Trust. They met some of our volunteers who told them about their experiences of being part of our College.

It was great to hear how they had started as learners progressed to being volunteers, some becoming paid members of staff. Recovery is not about getting better so much as it is about living a life of value and worth. Our hope is that our courses help you find the value in life even if things are difficult.

Please show your support to our Song Writers – who have found the value of music by joining them for a live performance of their work – Music-Making Minds. (see below for details)

Dates for your diary of free events:

Mission to Mend Community Roadshow

On Friday 16 June at 12.30pm – 4.30pm

At Calderdale & Kirklees Recovery & Wellbeing College, Pathways, Nettleton Road, Mirfield WF14 9AQ

We would love to invite you, friends and family on a Mission to Mend – a celebration of community textile sewing for repair. Following a series of repair and textile heritage workshops with the local community, the roadshow event will bring together the best of local sewing and celebrate with talks, demonstrations, workshops, an exhibition and music.

Learning simple techniques for textile repair is beneficial for both people and planet. It reduces textile waste, saves money and improves wellbeing by developing hand skills and everyday creativity.

The roadshow is open to everyone, family friendly, and sewing participation is encouraged (but not essential!).

No booking is required.  We look forward to seeing you there!
