Get Involved in our 10 Year Celebrations through Fabric Art!
Join us to celebrate 10 years of C&K Recovery & Wellbeing College!
This year the Recovery College is ten years old, and we’d like to invite you to help us celebrate by contributing to a collaborative project creating our own unique commemorative quilt! This will be used to represent the College and it will be showcased at public and college events in the future.
The quilt will be made up of lots of individual fabric squares made by our learners, volunteers, friends, staff and partners and it will make a lasting memento of our creative and recovery journeys – both individually and together as a College.
It will also be showcased as part of the 2025 WOVEN in Kirklees textiles project, which is a festival celebrating creativity, innovation, and heritage in textiles across Kirklees. This year’s WOVEN festival is running throughout June and we hope to finish the quilt in time to take part.
Get involved and make your own quilt square! (no previous experience needed)
There are lots of ways to take part and contribute your own square to the finished quilt. If you’re already brimming with ideas and crafty skills then you can make your square at home and bring or send it in (please see the instructions below to make sure your square will fit into the quilt).
Alternatively we’ll also be providing the opportunity for you to make a square in each of our creative textiles courses starting after Easter, where you’ll be guided to use the techniques taught in the course to create a square. These courses will be advertised during February, so keep your eyes on our courses calendar and book early as we expect them to be popular.
The themes we’ve chosen for the quilt are Celebrating the College and what it Means to You and Creativity for Wellbeing, which we hope leaves lots of room for your own personal interpretation and expression.
Quilt square instructions
- Squares must be made of fabric and can be in any colour
- The size of the square must be 20cm x 20cm PLUS a minimum of a 2cm border (without a 2cm border in addition to the 20cm square we won’t be able to add your square to the quilt!)
- To decorate your square you can sew, glue, paint, collage, embroider, print, draw, or applique. Or you can create your own knitted or crocheted square.
- If you require material, have questions, or are in need of ideas please do get in touch
- First collection of squares is on 14 February 2025 at Mirfield Community Centre or you can post them to us as the address below, or pop them into the labelled box at Mirfield Community Centre.
Ideas for your square
