The Golden Age of Hollywood: Studio Battles

Join us as we head back in time to the early 20th Century and learn about the Golden Age of Hollywood! On this popular four-week course, delivered by Recovery College Volunteers Russel and Joy, we will learn about the drama within the Hollywood studio system from the 1930s to the 1950s.
Behind the scenes in the well-known studios, executives known as movie moguls controlled the careers of actors, directors, writers and thousands of other workers. On a whim, careers could be ruined and employees blacklisted. There was also conflict between the studios themselves. Together we will explore the infighting and intrigue and also enjoy seeing great performances by actors, now long forgotten, who fell foul of this system. Fame is sometimes fleeting!
Throughout the course, we will see movie clips from the major studios. For the final week we’ll watch a full-length classic feature film from that period. Popcorn provided! This course is suitable for all learners, whether or not you have previously undertaken a Golden Age of Hollywood.

You are not referred to the Recovery College, you can simply enrol yourself, or on behalf of someone for any of our courses that may be of interest to you. Our courses are open to all adults and we welcome carers, supporters and professionals too.
