My development

Would you like to be more engaged in your local community? Have you ever considered volunteering?  Do you love to read?  Would you like to gain experience of working in a school environment?  If you answered ‘Yes’ to any of these questions, then perhaps this four week Reading Friends course is for you.

A Reading Friend Volunteer promotes the activity of reading to primary school children and there are volunteering opportunities in schools across the whole of Kirklees.  As a Reading Friend you will help boost children’s enjoyment and confidence in reading, by volunteering an hour or more a week to listen to them read. This course is delivered by friendly Facilitator, Tony from Kirklees Success Centre who will help you discover the skills, knowledge and confidence to become a Reading Friend Volunteer and will provide information regarding volunteering opportunities in a school near you, where you will be able to find out for yourself just how rewarding this role can be!

Please be aware that due to funding from Kirklees Success Centre priority will be given to learners living in Kirklees.
