Welcome to Keeping Connected and the weekly update. As one academic year draws to an end we are already gearing up for the start of a new one! We are so excited about next term with brand new courses such as the Wellness Planning Course (A Plan for Living Well) which we are rolling out in both Calderdale and Kirklees.
We would love you to become more involved in helping us grow our college and reach more people – to become our Ambassadors! You can find out more here.
We have a bright future as we continue to help people find the wellness tools and hope to live find meaning in life again.

With so many options, it might be hard to choose, so here are some tips for booking courses in the Autumn term:-
- We recommend that you book no more than 3 at once, then when you have completed one course, then book on another so you always have one or two courses to look forward to, without feeling overwhelmed
- Check that you are available for all the sessions and make sure your chosen courses don’t clash
- If you need to cancel a course you have booked on, please give us as much notice as possible so we can offer your place to someone else
- Use our learner portal or write in your learner welcome pack to remind yourself of the dates of any upcoming courses
- Contact us if you have any questions or concerns about attending

Monday 29 July 2024 2pm – 4pm 1 week
Join us for this one-off workshop where we will discover more about other services, activities and groups beyond the Recovery & Wellbeing College, to help us reach our full potential and live well in our own communities. Whether it’s the arts, leisure, recreation, physical activity, sport, education or volunteering opportunities or just something to keep the children entertained during the holidays, we will learn about organisations and services which relate to all of these topics – AND MORE. This workshop produced in partnership with Community Plus and the Recovery & Wellbeing College will also help us consider some of the barriers we may face in accessing these and how to overcome them, with the aim of increasing of sense of wellbeing and enabling us to live fuller, more meaningful lives.
Please note that this course is open to residents of Kirklees only.

Come and join us for a wellbeing walk around Mount Tabor led by Jess from Creative Minds. The local community are decorating their windows and gardens for the summer. We will be doing a gentle walk that gives a lovely tour of the area, you will have the chance to see some fabulous window and garden displays.

Financial Wellbeing Workshop

Wednesday 14th August 2.00-4.00pm (1 week)
This workshop is FREE of charge and delivered by a trained financial expert from HSBC especially for you, our leaners! It will include how to budget and get the most out of your money as well as lots of helpful tips and hacks to make you money work harder and go further. It will also include some advice on how you can keep safe from fraud and scams.

Have you ever wanted to have a go at making your own window display? This is your opportunity to give it a go and create something that you can take home to help to brighten up your community. In this fun and crafty session, led by Jess from Creative Minds, you will learn how to make your own window display using paper craft techniques.

Come and join us and learn about the Recovery & Wellbeing College and the courses we offer, designed to improve your health and wellbeing. Our courses are free and open to anyone aged 18 plus and are designed and delivered by people with a lived experience of a mental or physical health issue supported by professionals. Feel free to ask our friendly facilitators questions and learn how to enrol and access our courses, whether for yourself, a friend, family member or someone you support.
There is no need to enrol for this workshop but places are limited so please call or email us to book your place, whether attending the online or face to face session.

Join us for this information session and discover more about A Plan for Living Well A potentially life changing course that will help us to create our own wellness plan and get back into the driving seat of our lives! Come and meet our friendly facilitators and hear how developing their own wellness plan has helped them to improve and maintain their wellbeing, build their resilience and connect with others
Please be aware that the full course will take place over 10 weeks, consistently at the same location and time, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, starting two weeks after the information sessions.
A Plan for Living Well (Information session)
Mindful Doodles
Online – Wednesday 4 September 2024 10am – 12pm 6 weeks
Taking some time out to focus on a mindful and creative activity can really help enhance our sense of wellbeing. So come and join us for this six-week online course. We will learn simple, mindful drawing techniques including Neurographica, Mark Making and Repetitive Patterns. No previous drawing experience is required for this relaxing course, which will be facilitated by our Creative Practitioner, Sara Rose.
Please note, if you have not done a similar online Doodle course before, a resource pack will be posted out to you, with all the equipment you will need to complete this course. Otherwise, a list of resources needed will be sent to you in advance of the course.

Yoga in the Park – from 10am every Saturday until end of September
One of our Peer Project Workers, Laura Merriman, is running a Pay as You Feel Yoga Class in Greenhead Park, every Saturday at 10.00am in July, August and September. Creative Minds presents ‘Up North’ a triple bill film screening with The British Urban Film Festival (BUFF)
Free tickets available (on a first come first served basis) for people who use Southwest Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust services/carers/the unemployed/Halifax residents.
The screening features 2 short films created locally:
Lavender’ (UK, 27 mins) – an emotional drama that delves into the memories of a person living with dementia, built around an interpretation of some of the difficulties they may face (directed by Andrew Ball-Shaw).
‘Taxi’ (UK, 24 mins) is a gentle, funny and touching insight into the lives of a group of people we often take for granted (directed by Geoff Brokate for Verd de gris Arts).
Headline feature film: Absolutely Marvellous ((Director: Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe, UK, 84 mins)
a fly-on-the-wall boxing documentary which centres around a visually impaired mother and her day-to-day life.

Celebrate Yorkshire Day at the Mining Museum

Come celebrate Yorkshire Day in t’proper Yorkshire way – with activities on site all day, including:
Performances from the incredible Grange Moor Brass Band – A village brass band founded in 1854 with a proud heritage, based in West Yorkshire. Members from both the youth training band and the main band, will be playing at the Pit Yard Marquee at 1.30pm and 3pm.
Whippet Walks – all dogs welcome! There will two whippet walks around site:
12pm–1pm – Whippet Walk – around our Nature Trail
2.15pm–3pm – Accessible Whippet Walk around site
Learn about the work of Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, by visiting their pawsome stall.
