Life skills and interests
This gentle session will guide you through basic Judo poses-throws, falls and gripping an opponent. Judo can improve confidence, balance and focus.
You will receive support for the instructor to ensure that you are able to do this session safely and comfortably. We will take it at your pace. The session will also be supported by Peer Support Worker Kieran Sullivan he has an incredible recovery story:
“Hi I’m Kieran,
I have worked as a Peer Support Worker with the EIP team in Calderdale for over 5 years. I will be there to support you in this session. I have over 13 years of lived experience of mental health issues and have used mental health services before my employment. I feel that engaging in activities that are physical promote my wellbeing and have helped with my recovery journey. I am a keen footballer, golfer and kickboxer and these activities currently help me to maintain my wellbeing.
I would love do these sessions as a learner because activities like these really do improve my mood and wellbeing. If you enjoy exercise, gentle or vigorous, then these activities are for you. If you are looking for something new to help you in your recovery journey, then this session is perfect for you, it’s also a great way to meet new people. I can vouch 1st hand that engaging in physical exercise is just as good as any other form of treatment.
I am looking forwards to working alongside you.
Kieran”
